St. Just is a charming old Cornish mining town that has held its traditional character for centuries. Today, visitors can enjoy relics from Greek and Roman times, medieval times, and learn more about the mining history of the area. There is much to see and do in St. Just and the surrounding villages.
Mining
St. Just and the surrounding areas have a rich history of mining, farming, and fishing. Evidence of the mining history can be seen dotting the landscape in the form of disused engine houses, now monuments to the past. Everywhere these monuments can be found amongst the moorland, heather, and gorse. If mining is of particular interest, visit the nearby village of Botallack. Here you will see the Crown Mine engine perched high above the Atlantic while the shaft extends 666 meters below the sea.
